Derek Miller is a boutique business consultant, strategist, and entrepreneur who helps small businesses uncover their hidden value and achieve growth that is both meaningful and sustainable. His work blends hands-on consulting, strategic insight, and a deep belief in the potential of people, not just profits.
Derek’s journey began in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, where as a teenager he cultivated a passion for visual arts, music, and athletics. From state championship wrestling to mastering instruments like the oboe and guitar, he learned the art of focus, strategy, and adaptability — skills that now inform every business decision he makes. His creative and disciplined approach is the foundation of his consulting philosophy: every business, like a work of art, has infinite ways to evolve and solve complex problems.
Professionally, Derek started as a landscaper and eventually ran his own landscaping business, mastering the craft of shaping and transforming the ordinary into the extraordinary. He then expanded into construction, home restoration, and brickwork, gaining hands-on operational expertise across multiple industries.
His foray into finance as a stockbroker and financial advisor on Wall Street taught him the power of strategy, discipline, and client-focused service. While he excelled in managing assets, Derek realized his true passion lay in helping people build and grow businesses from the inside out — a mission that combines his talents in sales, teaching, strategy, and team building.
Derek’s most recent consulting engagement was as Chief Revenue Officer and Strategic Consultant at Zenki Dojo in Los Feliz, Los Angeles. Over four transformative years, he led a complete brand, operational, and market realignment. He secured growth capital, oversaw renovations of a 4,800 sq. ft. facility, expanded the client base to include artists, musicians, entrepreneurs, and world-class athletes, and redesigned the business model to focus on 1-on-1 wellness-centered training. The results were remarkable: a 300% increase in revenue, a 50% reduction in operational workload, and the creation of a premier training center that set a new market benchmark.
Derek brings the same heart, energy, and strategic insight to Promethean Investing, where he partners with small business owners to uncover their hidden value, design growth strategies, optimize client experience, and build teams that bring vision to life. He believes deeply in the power of small business to restore balance and purpose to society — from reinvigorating local economies and promoting family life to fostering health, education, and critical thinking.
Outside of consulting, Derek teaches economics, finance, and sustainable small business building at Creo Montessori School in Gilbert, Arizona. He is passionate about empowering the next generation of thinkers, entrepreneurs, and creators through Montessori-inspired learning, where critical thinking and self-direction replace rote instruction.
